Four Common Mindset Traps Among Women in Network Marketing
I’ve been blessed to meet some amazing women in my business, and today I want to share with you some mindset traps I’ve noticed from leading a large team.
These are mindset traps are dangerous because they can stunt your personal and business growth, so it’s best to know what these pitfalls are before you fall into them.
Mindset Trap #1: Negative Self-Talk
Among the women I’ve worked with, the level of negative self-talk is unreal. They constantly put themselves down. I spent a few days with several women recently, and the words that were coming out of their mouths were unbelievable. “I’m too fat.” “I’m too ugly.” “I’m not good enough.” It was constant.
We have to be aware of the things we’re saying, because when you say enough bad things about yourself, eventually you start to believe them. This can seriously impact your business, your family, and your goals. So be aware of the thoughts in your mind and how they’re impacting you. Stop putting yourself down!
Mindset Trap #2: Succumbing to Fear
I understand you have a lot of fears. Everyone has fears, but sometimes it’s easier to see things in other people than in yourself. I’ve seen fear of what other people think, fear of failure, fear of success, the list goes on and on. And the fear is overwhelming and crippling.
So take stock of your fears. Write them down and start hashing them out. Think, “What’s the worst that could happen?” For example, if someone in my newsfeed were to think I’m not attractive, what would I care? You can’t let your fears cripple you. Get over them, strangle them if you have to, and move on.
Mindset Trap #3: Forgetting How to Dream
Many of you have forgotten how to dream. I used to be there too. When I had my first son, I thought, “Okay, this is my life now. I’m going to change diapers every day for the rest of my life and that’s it.” Very narrow-minded, right?
What I mean is when you forget how to dream, you forget how to see the big picture. When you start something, you only see up to 30 days ahead, and you can’t see the impact you’ll have over the long haul. So zoom out, take in the big picture, and think long-term: 5, 10, 15, or even 20 years from now. Think about how you’re impacting people and how it will impact the world. Remember how to dream and think big!
Mindset Trap #4: Underestimating Your Abilities
This is the most common mindset trap I see. You have no idea what you’re capable of! There are some women on my team that I just want to shake, because they have so much potential but they let their fears get in the way. When you care too much about what other people think, you stifle your success and your family’s future. So don’t underestimate your abilities. Believe in yourself, because you can do it!
So do some self-reflection today. Think about these mindset traps: negative self-talk, fear, anxiety, and forgetting how to dream. Take stock of your legacy and how you want to impact others, then get out there and do something about it!
